What is Carouselland?

Carouselland is Carousell’s yearly bazaar where you can spend an entire day browsing local craft-makers’ barang, discovering new brands/designers/makers, gathering ideas to make your homes prettier, eating yummy local food, or just getting out there to support local! <3

There’ll be more than 300+ booths / stalls at Carouselland 2019, with different zones to cater to everyone including 7 ‘instagrammable’ spots to take hiao photos at to prove we cool enough to be at Carouselland 2019.

When is Carouselland 2019?

  • 16 Aug 2019 (Friday): 5pm – 9pm
  • 17 – 18 Aug 2019 (Saturday – Sunday): 12pm – 9pm

I’m pro local makers and these are my personal picks of some of the dope stalls you should visit (not sponsored – if that’s what you’re thinking):

  • ShopKitama – Practical and stylish pouches of all shapes / sizes painstakingly and beautifully hand sewn by a cute and very stylo local auntie. Fabric are all from Japan and Korea so quality is top notch. I am a total devotee of this particular pouch which I bought more than a year back; it’s the best thing ever to bring on board flights because everything you need on a plane ride can fit in there – passport, tissue paper, wet tissue, hand sanitiser, ear phones, facial masks, overseas sim card, and even a book for the learned ones like me.

$30 to feel very the style carrying this pouch versus plebeians who have to dig their barang out before they put their bags into the overhead compartments
  • BambooStrawGirl – If you haven’t heard of Bamboo Straw Girl then you must really be quite suaku, but luckily you’re reading this :] Please take your first step to do some good for our Mother Earth by visiting this stall please. Grab yourself some bamboo straws since they come in all shapes and sizes – yes even got fat ones for your bubble tea, or bamboo flasks / thermos, or toothbrushes or even all-natural crystal deodorant stones. Melissa (THE Bamboo Straw Girl herself) is veryyy friendly and nice, so it’s also a good chance to drop by her stall and have a chat especially if you suaku and / or just want to find out more about how you can take small personal steps to being a more conscious and responsible fellow earth dweller.

  • Eezycraftzy – This talented girl makes my favourite earrings in the world and she can customise any design to your liking (eg, you like the Disney Castle in blue / orange / yellow / nothing but sequins etc), plus she’s super patient and communicative so whatever you have in mind you just have to tell her and she will use her secret magic to make them. Before you know it, you will be hooked on her earrings like me.

  • Playmei.shoes – Omg these people. They make the most comfortable mules in the world. I don’t know about you but I’ve never really had luck with mules (aka slip-ons / half shoes or if you atas AF, boudoir shoes) because usually too painful in front, or fits awkwardly such that you need to drag your feet when you walk. Anyway, “Jenni” – the black one with many pom poms (named after the designer’s mommy) was my first pair of mules from PlayMei and also the one that made me fall in love such that I now have 3 pairs of mules and 1 espadrilles from PlayMei.

Of course all feet are different but go try them on for yourselves and let me know is it my feet weird or yours!
  • Exit.co – The one brand in this list I have never personally bought from but am dying to visit cos they hype AF and I follow all 3 of their instagram accounts. From what I see so far, they bring in vintage street wear that doesn’t feel musky or dirty or haunted. And I will definitely be visiting both their stall at Carouselland and also either of their physical stores in Orchard Plaza and Queensway Shopping Centre after this.

If you got a loyal man slave or slaves to bring along to Carouselland, don’t worry you can potentially dump him/them at the games and activities corner where there will be retro games play-offs, board games meet-ups, etc, or sign them up for one of the many workshops available.
